4 ways to Boost your Self-Confidence to Achieve More

Animated drawing a figure wearing green trousers and an orange top bending over and struggling under the strain of having six boxes on their back. The boxes say 'I can't do it', 'I'm not worthy', 'I must be perfect', 'I must not make a mistake', 'I'm not good enough' and 'nobody loves me'.

Today we will share 4 tips to help boost your self-confidence so you can achieve more. As a nation, us Scots are not very good at either receiving or giving compliments. We prefer to talk our achievements down rather than recognise the great things that we have achieved. It actually has a name – ‘The Scottish Cringe’. As part of our business mission we want to inspire people to have confidence to be the best they can be.

Recording your Achievements will Boost your Self-Confidence

We each make significant achievements on a regular basis but how do you record them? Keeping a journal with your top two achievements of the day is a great way to recall what you have achieved and how far you have come. As humans we are motivated when we can see progress and by taking ownership of recording our own progress this can go a long way to boosting your self-confidence.

Being Around Positive People will Help

There is nothing more confidence denting that being around negative people, so make sure you choose your friends and colleagues wisely.  We don’t always have control if people are negative in our teams but we choose whether or not we want to take part in the moaning and complaining. If you focus on positive outcomes and good intentions you will feel better and thus in turn be more confident.  Renowned businessman, Jim Rohn famously said that “you are the average of the five people you spend the most time with”.  Positivity is a disease worth catching so be around positive people.

Stepping Outside Your Comfort Zone will Boost your Confidence

We often like to stay within the familiarity of our comfort zones. We believe that in order to fully grow and develop we need to embrace the concept of ‘feel the fear and do it anyway’. Stepping out of your comfort zone will see you achieve things that you couldn’t imagine possible. That sense of achievement when you complete the presentation you were dreading and get a positive response or try a new sport and find out that you are ‘actually pretty good’! There are so many ways for you to step out of your comfort zone make it your mission to try new things and we promise the results will be worth it!

Finding The Reason Why You Can will Help you Achieve More

How many times have you listened to the inner voice that says you can’t do something? The quote, ‘if you think you can, or think you can’t you’re right’ resonates with me as in my early career I would often talk myself out of things because I didn’t have self belief. Some of the things I have achieved now due to having the confidence are phenomenal.

So instead of spending too much time thinking about why you may not be able to do things instead focus on the reasons why you CAN do something. If you are feeling overwhelmed often writing a list of the reasons why you are suitable for the job or why you should pack up and do that round the world trip you have always dreamed of is just the kick in the right direction you need. Don’t focus on why you can’t do things, instead find the reasons why you can!!!
